Volkswagen, the German carmaker, is aiming to enter into the growing segments, including compact SUV and sedan in the country. The company had launched the facelifted Polo and Vento in India, and is now working on a compact sedan and SUV, new generation Passat and Tiguan crossover for the market.

The first model to hit our market is likely to be a compact sedan, which will be based on the Polo platform. It is expected that the sub-4 metre sedan will go on sale by the end of 2015 or by early 2016. The development work of this sedan has already commenced, and it is expected to enter into production lineup soon.

The sub-4 metre sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. The oil burner is the same 1.5-litre unit that also powers the Polo and Vento. This engine offers two states of tunes- 89bhp and 104bhp. Its gasoline version is likely to get the 1.2-litre unit that also does its duties to the Polo hatchback.

The other major product to come India will be a sub-4 metre SUV. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, VW introduced the Taigun SUV concept. But, the company is working on an all-new sub-4 metre SUV to rival against the likes of Ford EcoSport and upcoming cars from Honda, Tata, Mahindra and Nissan.
