After presenting Polo and Vento in new avatar, Volkswagen is now mulling a sub-four meter compact sedan for its Indian customers. The new compact sedan in question will be based on its flagship hatchback, Polo. Popularity of compact sedans in India has grown leaps and bounds over last few years, as a result India now has a number of good options in this segment including Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Accent and Tata Zest. Other car makers are also vying to foray in this exponentially growing segment.

Presently there isn’t much known about the new product yet in inception stage, however one is clear that VW is now eyeing the volume segment in order to acquire larger market share in India.

Officials at Volkswagen India have also confirmed that a sub-four meter sedan based on Polo is in the making for the domestic market and will be launched in India soon. Heavy localisation of the car would help Volkswagen keep the price under the affordable range. This in turn would give the unnamed CS an edge over its rivals in the segment that have already struck a chord with the customers.

Volkswagen is confident about its product and says that it will not compromise on the quality of the vehicle. As mentioned above there is yet no information of the vehicle, as far as the mechanical set is concerned, we expect that the car could get a 1.2 litre TSI engine and the new 1.5 litre TDI engine. Since it will be a compact sedan, the above mentioned engine fit the requirement to qualify for the subsidy levied on cars below length of four meters. Other than a compact sedan, the company is also developing a compact SUV for the domestic market.
