German carmaker Volkswagen has been thrilling the world as well the domestic market for decades now. This time round to further gain popularity in the Indian market, Volkswagen has announced that it shall launch its first vehicle from the ‘developed uniquely for India’ approach. The news was revealed by Michael Mayer, VW’s director of Passenger Cars India to sources who have stated that Volkswagen has been planning on introducing a new “made-for-India” compact saloon while also simultaneously working on developing an entry level sports utility vehicle in the country.

Speaking more on the occasion, Mr Mayer’s said, “This needs to be developed uniquely for India, which is a bit of an out-of-the-box thing, an exceptional thing. This is a new vehicle, which we are working on with the highest priority. Hinting that the car would not be based on existing models, he said, “It will be a distinctive car, with its own name. It won’t be a Vento or a Polo. This is a segment which we are not willing and able to play in. The idea of VW going into that very, very, very low price segment by compromising on its core values of quality and safety is not a good idea.”

With this move it is likely that Volkswagen may stand tall amongst car brands in India. Pricing or technical detailing on the vehicle has not been known for now and may be known at a later date. But with made-for-India logic, the car prices are likely to get more affordable.
