Volkswagen India, the Indian subsidiary of the international car maker Volkswagen, is mulling over the option of brining its popular brand – Seat – in the Indian market. The company is aggressively expanding its footprint in the Indian market with expanding its sales network and launching new cars. Thus, launching brand Seat in the Indian market can prove a sales booster for the company in the mass segment, where Seat already has a complete portfolio of compact hatchback, Multi Utility Vehicle and premium sedans.

The Spanish brand Seat is currently performing moderately with global sales growing 2.3 percent in the current year. Thus, the high volume Indian market can help the brand in enhancing its global presence. For Volkswagen group, which already sells almost similar range of products through its fully owned subsidiary Skoda, debut of Seat can help the firm to surge ahead in the sales numbers.

However, it would be difficult for the Spanish brand to position itself with a unique identity in the Indian market, where its parent Volkswagen and sister concern Skoda already have almost similar product line-up, to which Seat is expected to roll-out in the Indian market. The segments where Seat could mark its debut in the country include premium hatchbacks segment with Seat’s Ibiza, premium sedan segment with Exeo saloon, and crossover segment with Alhambra MPV.
