      Volkswagen Launches Polo And Race Polo In India

      Volkswagen India launched its first premium small car model Volkswagen Polo in India at the Delhi Auto Expo 2010. It also introduced the Race Polo model which will compete in the Volkswagen Polo Cup being held in India in June 2010.

      The Polo will be available with 1.2L petrol and diesel variants. The Race Polo model will be available with a 1.6L diesel petrol engine. The Polo petrol 1.2-litre engine produces 75hp@5400rpm and torque of 110Nm@3750rpm. The diesel variant produces maximum power of 75bhp@4200rpm and 180Nm@2000rpm. The new Volkswagen Polo will be available in three variants – Trendline, Comfortline and the Highline that will have 50 percent localization.

      “The Polo stands for German engineering and top technology. It is a lively young and cosmopolitan car. This particular model has been designed with expectations and wants of our customers in mind, making Polo a new benchmark in the compact segment and even creating its own class – the Polo class,” said Prof. Dr. Jochem Heizmann, Member of Board Management, Volkswagen AG.

      When asked about the price, Neeraj Garg, Member of Board Management, VW India stated that the car will be priced very competitively in the range of the Honda Jazz, Skoda Fabia and Hyundai i20. Volkswagen intends to reveal the price of the car only when the car reaches dealerships in the first week of March.

      Volkswagen will manufacture the car at its Chakan facility near Pune and will roll out its sedan model in the latter half of 2010.
