Volkswagen's Jetta has been a popular seller across the global markets. However, car fans were always of the opinion that the 2.0-Liter engine was a bit slow. Sources have also indicated that the vehicle indeed earned a nickname “two points slow”. Though it came with a bigger engine, the engine reportedly only generated about 115 Hp of power with about 125 lb-ft of torque.

The new 1.4-TSI engine is stated by Volkswagen to be far more powerful and efficient that the older one. The new engine reportedly generates about 150 horsepower at 5000 rpm with about 184 lb-ft of torque at just 1500 rpm. Though the 2.0 Litre engine has been serving the US market as a base model, the vehicle has been taken off the European markets long time ago. However, the 1.8-TSI trim is expected to face stiff competition from the new 1.4-TSI engine.

Sources have also indicated on the possibility that the company may retain 1.8-TSI for the top of the line trim, whereas the lower variants may get 1.4-TSI. The new engine is expected to lure more customers who have until now been reluctant to opt for Volkswagen's Jetta due to low power output figures. The new engine is likely to be launched for the international market and not in India. The company shall reveal more details in the coming days.
