Volkswagen has invested towards the creation of this Centralized Traffic Control Centre at the Pune Police HQ as a part of their CSR initiative. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pune Traffic Police and Rotary Club of Pune Baner Charitable Trust for this new venture. The Pune Traffic Police Branch representatives even conducted a Bhoomi Pujan at the venue where the new centre will be set up.

The main aim of setting this new centre is to minimise the response time in cases of accidents and emergency situations. It will also help in proper management of traffic signals depending on the traffic density at various times of the day. Once the operations start, the facility will help in the remote surveillance of traffic through the real time data provided by the cameras installed in 260 prime locations around the city. The centre will then also be used to issue e-challans.

Andreas Lauermann, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "It is a privilege for Volkswagen India to partner with the Traffic police and the Rotary Club of Pune Baner to make our city safe to drive. As a brand, safety is one of our core components and we always abide by the same. With this partnership we look at extending the safety from within our cars to the local roads of Pune.”

Apart from traffic monitoring and management, the new centre will also leverage the efficiency and effectiveness of the limited Police manpower and utilise them for more value added jobs in traffic management. Now let's hope citizens improve their driving habits and bide by road rules as a self-discipline.
