      Volkswagen Intends to Integrate its manufacturing in India

      Volkswagen is building its new plant in Chakan new Pune. Currently, Skoda marks its presence in the Indian market with its popular Skoda Octavia. Skoda Laura is yet another model from the company.

      Now Volkswagen is planning to integrate its complete manufacturing in India for all three companies in India – Skoda, VW and Audi. The main for the company is to contain costs and maintain an uninterrupted supply of auto components for its production units. VW plants are built in such a manner that they are capable of handling production for any of its group companies whenever there is need.

      All three companies shall be cumulatively producing 15 or more models in India in coming three years. The complete shopping bag from VW shall have all the models from cheapest Up to Audi’s luxury A8 sedan. The company is also planning to open 30 more new outlets by the end of 2009.

      Skoda launched Fabia this year at the Delhi Auto Expo and is the most expensive hatchback model in its segment. Although Fabia falls into small car segment due to its dimensions of being less than 4000 mm, however, its engine specifications exceed the 1200cc capacity.
