The Volkswagen Polo GT would become the German auto maker’s flagship offering and could become the most expensive model in the premium hatchback segment of the Indian auto market. Experts believe that the high performance hatch would sit with a slightly higher price tag than the discontinued Polo 1.6 Highline model. The Polo GT is an out-and-out power hatch, a segment that is witnessing a continuous rise in demand among the domestic car enthusiasts.

Speaking of under-the-hood specifications of soon to be launched Volkswagen Polo GT, the power hatchback would be powered by 1.2 litre, 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine. This 1.2 litre TSI motor develops an impressive peak power output of 105 bhp, along with a highest torque delivery of 175 Nm. The engine assembly is expected to come mated to the cutting edge 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission system, which would make the new Polo model- a class leading product. Further, the 1.2 TSI turbo petrol motor would deliver better mileage performance than the 1.6 litre engine used in the previous model.

Upon its arrival on Indian turf, the Volkswagen Polo GT would be pitched in an intense face off against the likes of Fiat Grande Punto Sport 90bhp, Toyota Etios Liva TRD (petrol) and the Tata Indica Vista D90 models. The demand for power hatch models is growing steadily among the performance oriented domestic car buyers, because of their superior power and torque figures. Other car makers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are expected to enter the power hatch segment soon. As per industry sources, the upcoming Volkswagen Polo GT could be expensive by at least Rs. 70,000 to Rs. 1 lakh than the price of its normal sibling in the Indian market.
