Volkswagen launched the refreshed Polo hatchback in domestic market a month ago on August 15, 2014. At the time of launch the company had proclaimed that it will make Cross Polo, GT TSI and GT TDI variants of the vehicle available for sale across its showrooms in India effective September. However, it has been learnt that the German auto giant has already started delivering Cross Polo to customers in India. The new Cross Polo is available for sale at Rs 7.9 lakh (ex-showroom price New Delhi).

Tweaks made to the vehicle on the outer front include new head lamps with cornering lights and slightly modified tail lamps. However features that have been retained as it is from the previous model are skid guards, grille, bumpers and alloy wheels.

Volkswagen replaced the old 1.6 litre diesel powertrain with a newly developed 1.5 litre, for cylinder, TDI powertrain. The new 1.5 litre diesel engine is capable of developing a maximum power output of 90 PS along with a peak torque of 230 Nm. A five-speed manual transmission is mated to the engine that is claimed to deliver an excellent ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.14 kms on a litre. Besides this the vehicle is also available in petrol variants. The new Cross Polo currently faces competition from Toyota Etios Cross and will soon rival with Fiat Avventura hatchback based crossover that is due to launch in domestic market this year.
