Having launched the Ameo petrol earlier this year, Volkswagen India is now working on the diesel version of the car. The latter has been spotted on test again and is scheduled to go on sale in the next couple of months.
VW is reworking the 1.5-litre diesel unit which, in all probability, will make 108bhp of power, five more than its predecessor and 230Nm of torque. Even the lower 89bhp setup is expected to make more power.
Like the petrol car, the Ameo diesel will be paired to a 5-speed gearbox as standard although a 7-speed DSG will be on offer too. Volkswagen has tailor-made the Ameo for the Indian market where sub-4 metre sedans are all the rage. With the introduction of the more efficient diesel option, the German automaker is looking to make a bigger impact in this burgeoning entry-level segment.
