Volkswagen Ameo marks the German automaker’s debut in the compact sedan segment. Based on the Polo hatchback, the Ameo is claimed to be designed for the Indian roads. Volkswagen dealers have started accepting bookings for the vehicle. The company has also organised road shows across 17 major cities which will begin from tomorrow and go on till July 2.
Under the hood, the upcoming compact sedan Volkswagen Ameo will be offered in 1.2 three-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission that generates 74bhp of power and 110Nm of torque. Though there are no plans to introduce a diesel variant for now, in future it is likely to come with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit which will generate about 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque.
In terms of features, the new Ameo will get interesting features like rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, static cornering lights and a touchscreen with MirrorLink infotainment system. Additionally, for convenience it also gets automatic climate control, rear parking camera, rear AC vent, electronically adjustable steering, cooled glove box and adjustable steering.
In terms of design the front resembles the Polo hatchback. The slightly higher rear gives it a mild muscular stance. The vehicle gets a 330-litre boot space that can accommodate decent amount of luggage. As for safety, the Ameo gets dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) as standard. On the pricing aspect, it is expected to be priced between Rs 6 to Rs 8 lakh.
