Volkswagen, the German auto maker, is planning to launch a new car in the hatchback segment of the Indian, Chinese and Brazilian auto market. With the launch of Polo in the Indian market, the company has set new heights in terms of comfort and luxuries. The company forecasts to fetch a decent business with the launch of small cars in the domestic market.

This upcoming small car will be based on the platform of UP! and will be the first small car by the manufacturer in India. Although the launch date and details of the new model have not been disclosed, analysts speculate that it will be unwrapped next year in the Indian market after its showcasing ceremony at Paris Grand Palais, Champs Elysees, Paris. Along with India, there is a huge demand for small cars in Brazil and China.

VW's new small car will be offered in both diesel as well as petrol variants, thereby catering to the requirements of large number of buyers. The petrol variant is likely to be powered by 800 cc engine, whereas the diesel version will be packed with a 1.2 litre motor.

After stepping into the small car segment, Volkswagen will face tough competition from other companies like Hyundai and Maruti. In order to setup strong foothold in the Asian market, Volkswagen has grabbed around 19 per cent stake of Suzuki Motors and is also planning to grab around 10 per cent share of Indian market by the end of 2018. Considering other future prospects of Volkswagen, the company expects to become one of the world's largest auto makers.
