Piaggio is getting ready to launch Vespa scooter once again in India. The Italian auto manufacturer has recently announced that they are planning to bring their Vespa range of scooters once again in the Indian market. Earlier LML use to sell the Vespa scooters in India as it had a deal with Piaggio in India. The company would manufacture these scooters domestically for sale in the market. Vespa scooters are expected to be launched in India by March 2010.

The announcement was made after PIaggio had supposedly restricted its India operations from producing light commercial vehicles although it is obvious that his move coincides with the growing demand and appealing market for ungeared and electric scooters. At the moment, Piaggio makes Apé three and four wheelers, called Ape Truk in its Baramati plant.

This will be the third coming of Vespa into the Indian market. Earlier it had an agreement with Bajaj Auto in 1960 and when the agreement expired Bajaj started making its own scooters under the brand name Chetak. Later it tied up with LML brand to make geared scooters, but the joint venture was called off in 1999.
