The Indian unit of US based leading car maker Ford Motors has said that it will be largely focusing on diesel run cars while launching cars in the Indian market in Future. The company is all set to add as many as 8 new car models in its India portfolio by year 2015.
Speaking to the reporters on Tuesday, Ford India Executive Director Nigel Wark said "Petrol prices are becoming high and this has swung the proportion of cars sold in favor of diesel models." He added, "The upcoming products will be mainly on the diesel platform. This has created a lot of stress to manufacture diesel cars."
In year 2010, the company sold a total of 83,000 units in the Indian market. Registering high sales of its popular compact hatchback Figo, the company has already sold 58,000 units in the country in current year, so far. At present, the company exports its Figo model to as many as 50 countries.
Meanwhile, the company is all set to launch the Ford Fiesta Global in the Indian market in the month of July 2011. The car will be carrying a new avatar with a range of new age technological features.
