      Upcoming Fiat Punto face-lift expected to be tough contender in hatchback segment

      Recently, news has been doing rounds that Fiat has been working on its forgotten sleek hatchback ‘Punto’ and intends on reviving the car this year with a fresh face. On a number of occasion the hatchback has been spotted undergoing tests on Indian roads, thereby indicating a possible launch sometime soon. The Italian car-maker Fiat has been known for quality, refinement and performance on a global automotive circuit.

      Post split from Tata Motors in the country a while ago, the Italian car-maker had been struggling to add up numbers on the sales charts amidst stiff competition from Indian and International car-makers in this segment. Now with a fresh face on the cards from the Fiat’s stable, sales are expected to end on a positive note by the end of 2014. Fiat has chosen to remain tight lipped about the Punto hatchback and the pricing along with specification shall be revealed at an official unveiling event.

      As per sources, the upcoming car shall retain the existing petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant is expected to be powered by 1.2 Liter and 1.4 Liter engine that generates about 68 Bhp of power with 96 Nm of torque and 90 Bhp of power with 115 Nm of torque respectively. The diesel version is expected to retain 1.3 Liter multi-jet engine that generates about 90 Ps of power. Exact technical specification has not been revealed as of now, and shall be revealed post an official launch expected sometime later this year. The changes this time around are primarily cosmetic. As per sources the hatchback shall sport new designed headlamps, taillights and smart interiors. The production version of Punto hatchbacks expects a bigger and smoother front and rear bumper that adds a smart external appeal to the car.

      The latest version of Linea from the Fiat family has been recently launched in the Indian market.
