The competition in the SUV segment just seems to be getting bigger everyday. Two International car-makers namely Volkswagen and Hyundai have entered with their respective models namely Taigun and Santa Fe.
The Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be powered by 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine. The engine generates a good 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. The diesel version may feature a 1.4litre, 3 cylinder engine. The Taigun features turbo chargers and direct injection technology to deliver an impressive fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl in Petrol, whereas the Diesel version is more fuel efficient. Moreover, the car claims to reach a top speed of 185 kmpl in just under 9.2 seconds. This is a special feat even for an SUV that weighs around 985 kgs!
The Taigun SUV features a bigger and bolder stance. The exteriors are vibrant with rugged side panels, underbody protection and roof rails. The Brazil showcased version featured LED lights on roof rails and 17-inch alloys, though the production version may vary. The infotainment system inside the car is stated to be compatible with variety of smart-phones. The smart air-cons feature a temprature display inside the nozzle and can be adjusted for blower and air speed. Official specifications for the car is yet to be received and shall only be declared when the car is launched at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo event.
In an attempt to revive the Santa Fe, Hyundai has come with an all new SUV for the Indian market. As per reports, the new version imbibes a Fluidic-derived Storm edge design philosophy. The SUV shall be powered by the same 2.2 litre diesel engine that produces an impressive 194 bhp with a torque output of 436 Nm. Two-wheel drive/Four-wheel drive pattern shall be available with an option to choose from Automatic transmission or Manual Transmission.
The interiors in the Santa Fe is stated to be based on Fluidic design. It features a GPS device, leather seats, sunroof and a convenient start-stop system for the engine. Legroom for the rear seats have also been worked upon and can seat up-to three people with ease. The interiors look elegant with generous use of beige. On the exterior front, the Santa Fe features a bolder-looking grill and the headlights are mated to flow through its sides. The sides also feature a smooth contour bringing out the Fluidic design at its best. The SUV's teardrop-shaped fog lamps are integrated into the front bumpers. Reports also state that, the new Santa Fe shall feature 9 centimeter longer wheelbase as compared to the older model. Single-sided quad shaped exhaust at the rear has been retained along with a large bash plate.
The upcoming 2014 Auto Expo event shall see many SUV's from Indian and International car-makers making a debut on local soil. Amongst the huge line-up it would definitely be fun to see which manufacturer draws a large number of curious visitors to its stand!
