      There are a number of cars, which have been extremely popular in the Indian car market for over a decade or so. After proving their mettle consistently for years, the models have been phased out recently. Among these phased out vehicles, there are hardly any model more famous than the Hindustan Motors Ambassador or Maruti 800.

      Hindustan Motors Ambassador was one of its kinds and served the Indian automobile sector for quite a long time. This car was powered by a 1489 cc, four-cylinder diesel engine, capable of producing 35.5 bhp power at the rate of 4000 rpm. The torque output of the model was 7.44 kgm at the rate of 2250 rpm. Power was sent to the wheels with the help of a synchromeshed five-speed gearbox. On the other side, the petrol model was powered by an 1817 cc mill, which was capable of producing 71 bhp at the rate of 4800 rpm. The torque output of the car was 13.7 kgm at the rate of 2250 rpm. This car was undoubtedly one of the most popular cars of all time in the Indian driving condition.

      When it came to hatchbacks, the king of roads was Maruti 800. This car has been the ideal family car in India for an extended period of time. It was powered by a 796 cc engine, which produced 37 bhp power at the rate of 5000 rpm. The maximum torque output for the car was 59 Nm at the rate of 2500 rpm. Power was transmitted to the wheels with the help of a four-speed gearbox. With a mileage of 16.1 kilometres per litre, this car was the best choice for almost over a decade.
