TVS Motor Company, one of the prime two wheeler manufacturer in the country, presented the new Apache RTR 2012 series that mainly features a cosmetic makeover. The bike series features a 'Beast themed styling', according to the official statement of the company. One of the leading bike makers of India, it stated, “The new design, all lines pulled back, excesses eliminated and curves chiselled to perfection, synergises with a high performance powertrain to look dynamic.” This new design will be applied to all the models in the Apache series, namely RTR 160, RTR 180 and RTR 180 ABS.
President, Marketing, TVS Motor Company, H S Goindi said, “Apache RTR has been taken to the next level with extensive engineering and aggressive design. Every detail, component and mechanism has been designed in order to enhance performance. Apache as a brand is received well.”
The most prominent design change introduced in the bike series is the new headlamp unit complete with new pilot lamps and LED illumination. Going by the official statement of the company the unique pilot lamps are influenced by the 'eye of fury', consisting of the LED light guide technology coupled with new pilot lamps to make a pair of intense beast like eyes. These LEDs are activated with ignition and stay on all the time. Featuring a new design with all the excesses done away with, the bike has a streamlined look that synchronises with the high performance engine that it packs.
In order to give a more aerodynamic look to the bike, the company redesigned the fuel tank and the air scoops. TVS claims that this new design assists in lowering the engine heat and delivering better performance, thus enhancing its capabilities. The instrument console has been redesigned as well and now sports faux carbon fibre inserts and muscular styling, along with blue backlit for a sporty look. Seat cowls of the new bike series are more angular and combine with the sharp design of the engine cowl to render an aggressive and racier stance to the bike. The bike will now come with a new two tone splash themed paint scheme.
As per the company's statement, the new Apache RTR 160 generates 14.9 bhp of peak power and can touch maximum speed of 118 kmph. The 180 version can do better and reach 124 kmph with peak power of 16.7 bhp. The Apache RTR 160 is launched in four dual tone colours, namely yellow, red, green and grey with black as a base. On the other hand, the 180 cc model comes in grey, yellow, white and black, whereas the ABS version comes only in white and black colours. The new TVS Apache RTR 160 is priced at INR 67,505, TVS Apache RTR 180 costs INR 72,090 and TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS comes with price tag of INR 82,780.
