British luxury bikemaker has claimed the top spot in the luxury bike market in India, while defeating popular line-up offered in the country by American bikemaker Harley Davidson and Indian company Royal Enfield. Though reports show that Harley Davidson and Royal Enfield has sold more bikes this year, Triumph has shot back claiming that they have sold the largest number of true luxury bikes that have been classified based on parameters set by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Speaking more on the occasion, Vimal Sumbly, Triumph Motorcycles (India) MD said, “According to SIAM, the definition of luxury bike is that it should have a minimum engine capacity of 500 cc and minimum price tag of Rs 5 lakh. If one goes by this yardstick, Triumph has emerged India's largest luxury bike brand in its first year of business, clocking sales of 1,081 units in just over 10 months. Though Harley Davidson has sold more motorcycles, if one leaves out the Street 750 that costs around Rs 4.3 lakh, we have more numbers.” The company reportedly does not wish to be compared with bikes that are offered at a lower price tag. It considers comparison made with Rolls Royce who sells bikes at a price tag of Rs 7.89 - 21.29 lakh in the country.

Recently, Triumph had inaugurated its 10th showroom in Kolkata. The other 9 are present in major cities like - Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Cochin, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. In the next 6 months, the company plans on opening three more outlets in Jaipur, Indore and Kathmandu. In about next two years the company may further penetrate into seven more cities.
