India has been facing a stiff problem regarding road safety issues for quite some time now. There have been a plethora of accidents, which have cost several lives in the past. This has been a rising issue for the Government, which has started looking for applying some strict rules. This has been essentially done to make people understand the importance of road safety. The rule for violators has been made stricter to make sure that they abide by it. Going forward, do not be surprised if the cop catches you and penalises you harshly. The quantum of fine has been hiked just to make sure that the number of violators decreases. This might be a positive step towards reducing the number of accidents. In the long run, this will definitely have a role to play in reducing the number of casualties and make the roads safer.

The Government has been planning to increase the pressure on the violators for long. Now, penalty points will be introduced in the motor vehicle law. Once a driver has 12 negative points in the list, he or she will have the driving license suspended for a year. Violation of signals, tripling, drunken driving, vehicles without registration will invoke such negative points. This is a great decision on the part of the government as definitely it will bring the law breakers under control. On the other side of things, the better drivers will get brownie points for abiding by the rules.
