Toyota's small car project is promising a launch in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors stated that the new small car from Toyota coming to India will also have a diesel variant. The car is expected to be launched in December 2010. The car will roll out from the company’s Bidadi plant near Bangalore in 1.2L and 1.3L engines.

Toyota marks its presence in India as Toyota Kirloskar Motors in its joint venture with Kirloskar Motors. The Indian arm of the Japanese automobile manufacturer confirmed that Toyota’s project for the small car has already reached half-way and the car will be ready to hit the roads in next 22 months.

The small car (is it the Yaris?) will be available in both hatchback and sedan versions. It shall also have a greater degree of localization to keep its prices competitive in the Indian market. The company is working very aggressively on its small car project. It is also expanding its dealership network in India from its current status of 82 dealerships to 150 dealers by end-2010. The company is also mulling about bringing its financial arm – Toyota Financial Services – to India.
