Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian unit of world’s largest car maker Toyota, has announced that it will cut down its production by up to 70 percent in India, from April 25th to June 4th. During this period, the manufacturing plants of the company in the country will not be operating on Mondays and Fridays. The move has been taken due to the disruption of supplies following the devastating earth quake and Tsunami in Japan.

At present, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has two manufacturing plants in Bangalore where the company produces its India portfolio vehicles such as Etios and Innova. The India portfolio cars of the company include entry level sedan Etios, multi-utility vehicle Innova, premium sedan Corolla Altis and luxury SUV Fortuner.

As per the restructured production plan, the company will be manufacturing about 7,000 lesser vehicles every month, during the period. The proposed production cut will lead the company to a revenue loss of Rs 500 crore.

As per a statement given by Sandeep Singh, Toyota Kirloskar Motor's deputy MD (marketing), "It is a temporary measure to adjust production as per the supplies from our overseas locations. Based on the availability of components in future, we will chalk out our future strategy."
