      Toyota to bring more hybrids in India; celebrates 1st anniversary of Camry hybrid

      Japanese carmaker, Toyota is celebrating the first anniversary of the Camry Hybrid in the country. The company has managed to sell 541 units of the hybrid car in the Indian car market till date. Toyota is very pleased with the performance of hybrid model of the premium sedan, and is now planning to bring more such products in the country.

      Currently, the hybrid version of the luxurious sedan is assembled on a separate assembly line in Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s second manufacturing unit in Bidadi, Bangalore. Toyota only assembled or manufactured its hybrid cars in nine nations across the globe out of which, India is one.

      The Indian-spec Camry Hybrid is propelled by a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, VVT-I petrol engine which is paired to a 650V hybrid motor. Its petrol version is capable of producing a top power output of 160bhp and a peak torque of 213Nm. On the other hand, the electric motor produces 143bhp of power. The combines power output of the hybrid model is 202bhp and 270Nm of peak torque. This engine is coupled to an E-CVT (electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission).

      N Raja, TKM Director and Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), said, "Currently 75 per cent of Camry sales are hybrid. The vehicle has been appreciated for its ideal combination of a luxury sedan and hybrid technology. Looking at the response we are encouraged to consider bringing more hybrid vehicles to India."
