Toyota has removed the petrol version of the Camry from its official Indian website. This hints at the discontinuation of the petrol model, while the hybrid will continue to be sold in the country.

The petrol Camry was powered by the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol mill from the hybrid. The difference was that this one churned out 179bhp and 233Nm of torque and the engine came mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. Even if the safety features are the same, the hybrid rides on 17-inch alloys wheels, unlike the petrol with 16-inch alloy wheels. The petrol version was equipped with HID headlamps, while the hybrid version gets LED units.

The Camry Hybrid is still on sale, after a hiccup last year, when the carmaker had stopped its sales. The hike in hybrid car prices under the new GST ruling had resulted in the poor sales of the sedan. Nonetheless, the carmaker resumed sales of the first and the only hybrid model to be manufactured in India.
