Toyota has revealed their plans to offer every model, including the Lexus line-up, in their portfolio with electrification tech by 2025. While this means that the brand will have to essentially ramp up production, it also shows that they need to step on the gas in terms of development.

Toyota plans to introduce 10 EVs by the early 2020s

At the moment their target portfolio apparently comprises of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Toyota intends to launch at least 10 BEVs, some of which will surprisingly bank our shores and other markets by the early 2020s. So that we are on the same page, what sets a PHEV apart from a BEV is the former’s ‘range’ flexibility thanks to the use of an internal combustion engine in addition to the electric motor/battery output. On the other hand, the driving range of a BEV is merely dependent on its battery capacity output, post which it needs a mandatory recharge to run again.

Having said this, Toyota is also developing batteries with better energy density, weight/packaging, and solving concerns related to cost. Furthermore, Toyota is targeting a sales of more than 5.5 million EVs by the year 2030. We will have more news to share in the days to come, so stay tuned to CarTrade.
