      Toyota plans for long-range EVs by 2020

      Reports suggest that Toyota Motor plans to build long-range electric vehicles on a large scale that should be available internationally by the year 2020.

      It is obvious here that Toyota has locked on to all-electric vehicles, and expects long-range EVs to be the ultimate substitute to traditional cars in the future. Earlier, Toyota felt that FCVs (fuel cell vehicle) were promising thanks to the similar range and refuelling time when compared to conventional cars, but the lack of hydrogen fuelling stations posed an imminent problem.

      Toyota is currently building a team which will primarily develop EVs with a range of 300km on a single charge, and is researching which platform will best suit this new EV. The brand aims to sell long-range EVs in Japan by the year 2020 after which it will move on to other markets like California, where the law requires them to sell a certain amount of zero-emission cars.
