The Toyota Innova Crysta has been launched in India today, starting at Rs 13.84 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). Apart from the revamped external appearance, this next-gen Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) is built on a new ladder-frame chassis and gets new engine options as well.
The all-new GD powertrains include a 2.4-litre (146.9bhp, 343Nm) and a 2.8-litre GD (174.5bhp and 360Nm) engines. The former comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only, while the more powerful 2.8-litre unit gets a six-speed automatic transmission. Both these engines are 10 per cent more fuel efficient than the old diesel units. The ARAI fuel efficiency figure for the 2.4-litre manual is 15.10kmpl and 14.29kmpl for the 2.8-litre automatic.
Even if the silhouette of the 2016 Innova remains the same as its predecessor, the overall appearance has undergone a major cosmetic makeover making it look better than the older Innova. This new generation model is bigger than the previous model and measures 4,735mm long, 1,830mm wide and 1,795mm high. And even if the wheelbase is the same at 2,750mm, the cabin has been revised for a premium interior packed with many new features. ABS, EBD and three airbags (dual front and knee airbag) are offered as standard.
For the Indian market, the Innova Crysta is being offered in a total of eight trims starting from the entry-level ‘G’, mid variant ‘V’ and top-end ‘Z’.
