Inspired by the success of the Volkswagen Polo R Cup, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is gearing up to launch its own racing series, Etios Motor Racing, by 2013. The racing series will be a one-make racing championship with several identical cars battling for the title. To promote the upcoming championship, TKM will be organising exhibition races on 4th and 5th August, 2012 at Sriperumbudur, Chennai. The car maker aims to take the excitement associated with the Etios Motor Racing to a new height with this event. This occasion will also witness 25 upcoming racing talents, which will be chosen by the car maker through gritting selection rounds out of 3,000 applicants.
TKM conducted the selection procedure for these drivers across different tracks in the country. The tracks were designed by Red Rooster Racing team, which is a famed entity in the field of motorsports. In the selection procedure, the organisers saw over 900 participants running through eight laps on go-kart to set the clock at finishing line in a minimum time. In the end, N. Leelakrishnan, Ace motorsports tuner, selected top 70 drivers with assistance from other professionals like Farad Bhathena, Nawaz Sandhu, Karandeep Sandhu, Amittrajit Ghosh and Karna Kadur.
The Etios Motor Racing seems promising as apart from the 25 selected drivers, the track will also witness several national and international racers battling and showing their skills. One of the prominent driver, who will tread the asphalt at the tracks happen to be Ben Collins, who is a known name in motorsports arena. He is also the founder of Collins Autosport that supplies skilled drivers to Hollywood. Collins himself has shot for the upcoming Bond movie, Skyfall and has featured in the latest Batman movie, The dark Knight Rises.
Besides him, other international guest drivers include Director, Toyota Gazoo Racing and Super GT Class Lexus Team Kraft, Iida Akira. He is also the driver with Super GT Class Lexus Team Kraft and judge of D1 Grand Prix. The car maker has also planned a series of activities to keep audience engaged. The event will be aired live on Neo Sports, which has been roped in by Toyota as official broadcaster of the event.
