Looks like 2014 is turning out to be rather lucky for Toyota Motor Corporation. The automobile manufacturer announced that as of December 31, 2013, the collective global sales figures of its hybrid vehicles topped the 6 million unit mark. With the exact sales figure being, 6.072 million units, this recent milestone was achieved in the short duration of just nine months, the fastest time for Toyota till date.

Toyota has never had any qualms accepting the fact that it is of the belief that the goal behind environment-friendly vehicles can not be achieved unless they are widely used, and has always strived in accordance with that belief. And looks like those efforts are indeed paying off. According to Toyota, its hybrid vehicles have helped reduce CO2 emissions by 41 million tons and saved approximately 15 million kiloliters of gasoline.

Toyota launched the Coaster Hybrid EV in 1997, which was then followed by the launch of the Prius — the world’s first mass-produced hybrid passenger vehicle. Their hybrid vehicles have received tremendous support from consumers around the world ever since.

Toyota continues to focus on raising performance, reducing costs, and expanding its product lineup that will include non-hybrid environment-friendly vehicles.

Toyota currently sells 24 hybrid passenger car models and one plug-in hybrid model in about 80 countries across the globe. That said, Toyota also intends to launch 15 new hybrid vehicles worldwide within two years.
