The Japanese auto giant Toyota has said that it is gearing-up to officially launch its premium car brand Lexus in the Indian market by year 2013. The decision has been taken to tap the increasing demand for luxury segment cars in the country. As per the company, the Lexus brand cars and sports utility vehicles will be sold in the Indian market through separate showrooms, other than its existing outlets for brand Toyota cars in partnership with Kirloskar group.
In a statement given to PTI from Tokyo, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Sing said, "Lexus is a premium and reputed brand of Toyota. We will introduce the models of this brand in India in 2013." He added that the cars will be imported from Japan and will be offered in India as a completely built unit.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant, is currently conducting studies in the country to come-out with strategies to market the car. The company will be announcing the tentative price range of its Lexus brand cars in India as soon as it completes its market study.
Though the company is yet to launch Lexus brand in India, but a range of its models are already running on Indian roads, imported directly by interested individuals. The Lexus brand is already very popular among luxury SUV lovers in the Indian auto market
