Toyota Motors is ready to bring its SUV Fortuner in India by this September. “The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalising details for the launch,” said Mr Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. “We are still working out the price details of the Fortuner, taking into account variations in exchange rates, but expect it to be around Rs 20 lakh,” he added.

The company intends to import the car as a completely built unit and is still testing its commercial viability due to heavy import duty on CBUs in India. It marks its presence in India though its joint venture with Kirloskar Motors. The new Fortuner is expected to be launched in three-liter advanced common-rail diesel engine. The expected price of Fortuner is around Rs. 20 lakh. Toyota is still working on its pricing for the model taking into account variations in exchange rates. The company is also building its second manufacturing utility in Bangalore with an investment of Rs. 3200 crores to launch its strategic small car in India by 2011-12
