      Toyota expects sales growth of over 38 percent in 2010

      The Indian units of Japanese auto giant Toyota is expecting to achieve a sales growth of over 38 percent to 74,000 during calendar year 2010. The company has managed to sell 54,000 thousand units in the last calendar year.

      Thrilled by the impressive response received by its recently launched  Toyota Etios sedan, the company is now aiming to sell more than 1,50,000 units in the next calendar year, out of which Etios series of cars will be accounting for about 50 percent.

      According to a recent statement given by Mr. Koji Nagata, executive managing coordinator and director of Toyota Kirloskar Motors, "We want to participate in the mainstream segment. So far we have been only in the premium segment."

      The company is strategizing very aggressively for expanding its foot prints in the Indian market. It plans to expand its sales network to 150 dealers by the end of next year, from existing 97 dealers.

      Moreover, the company is also eyeing enhancing the localization level in its Etios series of cars to as much as 90% from existing 70% in next few years. The level of localization in Etios will be increased by producing the engines and transmission systems for this car in India itself, which are currently being imported from Toyota’s base market Japan.
