      Toyota Etios bookings crosses 12,000 unit mark in just two weeks

      Toyota Etios, an entry-level sedan that has recently been launched in the Indian market, has managed to clock over 12,000 pre-order bookings in the country. Toyota had started accepting bookings for this model in India form 1st December, which means that the milestone of 12,000 units has been achieved in just two initial weeks of its launch in the country.

      Interestingly, the company has aimed to sell 70,000 units of Etios in India annually. And by looking at current pace, it seems to be having no problem in getting to its targeted figures. According to a recent statement given by Etios’ chief engineer, Yoshinori Noritake, the number of orders is far bigger than he personally expected. He added that the company doesn’t even have the car in showrooms yet.

      Meanwhile, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) is all set to commence the production of Etios at its factory near Bangalore, from December 20th. The Toyota Etios model is currently manufactured with 70 percent localized content and the company plans to take the level of local content to as much as 90 percent by starting the production of engine and transmission systems of Etios in India itself. As of now, the company imports both engine and transmission system from its base facility in Japan.

      Thrilled by the success of Etios sedan, the company is now aggressively strategizing for the upcoming hatchback version of this car – Etios Liva – which will be rolled-out in the country in April 2011. TKM had recently stated that it will disclose the price of Etios Liva after the announcement of Union Budget of India in March 2011.

      Toyota is currently one of the most prestigious brands in the country as many of its cars  in India are the best-sellers in their respective segments that comprise of crossover Innova, luxury SUV Fortuner and premium sedan Corolla Altis.
