Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the Indian unit of the Japan based leading auto maker Toyota, is all set to launch new diesel version of its Etios series of cars in the country, in the second week of this month. The Etios series of cars includes compact hatchback Liva and entry level sedan Etios. While the petrol version of Etios sedan was launched in the Indian market in December 2010, the petrol version of Liva hatchback was launched in June this year.

In a statement given on Wednesday, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director Sandeep Singh (Marketing), said, "Yes, we are launching the diesel variants of the two cars on September 9. We aimed to introduce the two versions in August, but had to postpone by a month due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan."

The company however, hasn’t disclosed the pricing and specification details of this car in the country as these details will be revealed on the day of the launch of these cars in the country. At present, the total production of Etios series of cars stood at 6,000 units, to which the company plans to enhance to up to 6,800-7,000 units by the month of October 2011.

The launch of these diesel-run variant can be considered a wise decision from the company’s side considering the rising demand for diesel run cars in the Indian market. The step will further strengthen the position of the Etios series of cars in the country.
