Toyota Kirloskar is looking at getting the petrol versions of the Innova and the Fortuner to beat the Delhi ban on diesels in the NCR. Toyota is one of the worst affected brands with this new diesel ban. As per the apex court rule out, cars powered by diesel engines in excess of 2000cc won’t be registered in the National Capital Region.

      Toyota Fortuner

At the moment, Toyota has the Innova and the Fortuner that have diesel engines in excess of this size. Toyota has hinted it might return with a petrol-driven Innova if there is a demand for it. Toyota is planning to even get a petrol-powered Fortuner for the NCR. Fortuner and Innova are the best-sellers in their segment and this will hamper the sales numbers for Toyota. Toyota sells a 4.0-litre V8 petrol driven Fortuner in the Gulf markets and this could be the engine it might be considering for India as well, if there is an immediate requirement.

Mahindra & Mahindra is the worst hit automaker with this diesel ban as most of its products have engines in excess of 2000cc. Tata Motors is another automaker that is looking at alternatives with this diesel ban.
