Honda's Mobilio has been a grand success in the Indonesian market post launch in January this year. The Mobilio MPV has been responsible for Honda's sales and market share rise in the Indonesian market. A similar effect is also expected from the Indian market for Honda. The MPV is launched in the country at a starting price tag of about Rs. 6.49 Lakhs. The vehicle has reportedly received an overwhelming response in the form of 5800 bookings within first two days of its launch. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been a strong contender in the MUV segment in India. The seven seater MUV from India's largest car-maker comes with flexi seating option that has been ergonomically designed for maximum comfort. Toyota Innova on the other hand ruled the MPV segment for several years, its roomier cabin, boot space and feature rich cabin made it a viable option for customers.

The seven seater Mobilio MPV is offered with three row layout and as expected the third row is roomier. Underpinning the extended Brio platform, Mobilio has been inherited with sharp and bold looks, overall the MPV has a muscular stance. Petrol range of Mobilio has been packed with a frugal 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine that churns out a maximum power output of 116 Bhp. Diesel variants on the other hand are housed with Honda’s efficient 1.5 litre i-DTEC powertrain that engenders a peak power output of 99 Bhp. Diesel powered Mobilio is claimed to deliver segment best fuel economy of 24.2 kmpl and petrol version returns an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 18.2 kmpl which is again impressive.

The biggest advantage for Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV is its affordable pricing, therefore Honda will have to carefully price the MPV in order to deviate Ertiga’s sales. Available at a starting price of Rs 5.80 lakh, Ertiga is a frugal offering, while it is being speculated that Mobilio could be offered at a starting price ranging between Rs 6.2 lakh and Rs 6.5 lakh. Mobilio has a lot on offing in terms of space, mileage and equipments as compared to Ertiga. Looking closely at the dimensions of Mobilio and Ertiga, it can be seen that the former is a tad longer with 4,386 mm length as compared to the latter’s 4,265 mm of length. While Ertiga offers more width and height-(1,683 mm width and 1,603 mm height) as against Mobilio ( 1683 mm wide and 1,603 mm height). Honda has been maintaining from the very beginning that Mobilio’s USP is going to the third row, this is where it can actually overpower Ertiga. Fuel economy claimed by Honda for the petrol and diesel variants of Mobilio is 17.3 kmpl and 24.2 kmpl respectively which is higher than Ertiga that returns 16.02 kmpl in petrol guise and 20.77 in diesel guise.

Coming to Innova, it in indubitably the roomiest offering among the three with a length of 4,585 mm, width of 1,765 mm and height of 1,760 mm. The ground clearance is also the highest at 2,750 mm among the three MPVs. Besides this, Innova is powered by a set of high displacement petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol engine is a 2.0 litre mill outputting top power and torque of 132 PS and 181 Nm as compared to Mobilio’s 1.5 litre, 119 PS and 145 Nm engine. Diesel range of Innova is housed with a 2.5 litre powertrain that belts out maximum power of 102 PS and peak torque of 100 Nm.
