The latest Range Rover has been unveiled and this 2018 MY vehicle is a mid-life update for the British automaker’s biggest and most expensive model on sale. The changes are comprehensive and see the car get a hybrid powertrain for the first time in its multi-decade existence. Here then are the top four highlights for the SUV.

      2018 Range Rover

      1. Plugin hybrid powertrain
Given that JLR has committed to the hybridisation of its entire range within the next few years, it only seemed logical to start the change at the top. The hybrid power train is a 2.0-litre petrol engine coupled with 85kW electric motor having a combined output of 404bhp. You get the P400e with a ZF eight-speed AT and a Terrain response system which has now been programmed to make use of the electric motor also.

      2. 42.94kmpl
Yes, you read that right, 42.94kmpl/101mpg. That’s a figure that Range Rover claims you will get with the plugin hybrid power train. To put this into context, it is quite close to what you would get on a KTM Duke 390. It’s a bold claim but if the company is quoting the same then surely the real world figure will still be impressive for a vehicle of this size.

      3. Updated connectivity options
The centre console has been fitted with dual screens while there is now 4G connectivity option for multiple devices. In addition you also get dual screens at the rear and smartphone apps. The front seats can adjust in 24 ways while the sun visors can be operated through gesture control.

      4. Pixel LED head lamps
Each of the optional top-of-the-line Pixel head lamps have 144 LEDs in them and are adaptive to the environment around you. They don’t alter the appearance of the car but be rest assured that it is going to be like driving with a MINI sun in front of you.
