The Indian car market is witnessing a boom and 2019 will be a pivotal year in this path of growth. One of the body styles that expects to see a major spurt is the sedan. It has, for long, been a favourite of those who are graduating to bigger cars or spending a big budget to buy their first cars. There is a large list coming and here is our top 10 upcoming sedans of 2019.
Hyundai Xcent facelift
We begin with a facelift for the Hyundai Xcent. It has been nearly two years since Hyundai introduced an upgrade for its compact sedan and this time around, it is expected to be another mid-life refresh. The looks are expected to remain mostly unchanged but Hyundai is likely to add some new features to this sedan.
Tata Tigor EV
The long awaited Tata Tigor EV will most likely to be offered to the public next year. It has the same number of variants as its standard sibling but will, obviously, be only be offered with electric power. The car was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo and is currently only offered to various departments of the government.
Hyundai Elantra facelift
Hyundai’s largest sedan sold in India will get an update for 2019. The facelift car was introduced in America and sees it get a new face, updated interiors and extremely swanky tail lamps that give it a signature look. We’ve looked at the car in detail and you can read about that here.
Skoda Superb
This current generation of the Skoda Superb will get an update next year and at the time of writing this story, it was spotted doing the rounds in Skoda’s home country of Czechoslovakia. The updated Superb will receive mild cosmetic changes along with added features. For India it will continue to be locally assembled at Skoda’s plant in Aurangabad.
Honda Civic
Honda is looking to return to its sedan glory days in India with the next generation Civic. Unveiled and showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, the car is expected to be offered with both petrol and diesel power and will take on the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and the Skoda Octavia.
Toyota Camry Hybrid
Toyota will launch the Camry Hybrid in India towards the end of next month and this time around, as the name suggests, it is going to be a hybrid only for India. It is expected to be locally assembled at Toyota’s plant outside Bengaluru and will be a rival for the Volkswagen Passat and the Honda Accord.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan
This is a completely new model that Mercedes-Benz introduced last year and is, in essence, a sedan version of the new generation A-Class hatchback. It has the same engine and underpinnings as the latter but with the sedan body style. It will find a place between the hatchback and CLA sports sedan.
Mercedes-Benz CLA
Joining the new A-Class hatchback and sedan will be the CLA. While it was the only sedan model in the entry-level Mercedes range for a long time, it will now become what the CLS is to the E-Class range of cars. We will, of course, get the car in both standard and AMG 45 guise.
Next generation BMW 3 Series
The BMW 3 Series will finally enter a new generation next year for the Indian car market. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, it will come to India both in petrol and diesel guises and will be built at BMWs Chennai plant. Expect a launch by mid-2019.
Volvo S60
SUVs maybe the new push for Volvo but it has not left its sedans behind and will introduce a new generation for its mid-size premium. The car sports a design similar to that of the larger S90 range and will be offered in India in both petrol and diesel power.
Audi A6
The current generation Audi A6 has been around for a really long time and this new generation will be a much needed shot in the arm for Audi’s mid-size premium segment. The car will bring in a whole range of new technologies to the segment along with Audi’s latest design language.
