When it comes to sedans available between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 11 lakh, many names crop up in the mind. A list of top ten sedans segregated based on this price range will include names like Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Ford Classic, Chevrolet Sail, Maruti Suzuki SX4 and Fiat Linea.
The top variant of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire is available in the country at a retail price of Rs. 7.58 lakh. This vehicle has been well received by Indian customers. This variant is powered by a 1248 cc DDiS diesel engine, delivering peak power and torque outputs of 74 bhp and 190 Nm, respectively. It offers a mileage of up to 23.4 kmpl, which seems quite impressive.
SX4 is yet another sedan from Maruti Suzuki that finds its name in the list. This sedan is available with a price tag ranging from Rs. 7.31 to Rs. 9.84 lakh. It is available in three fuel options, namely diesel, petrol and CNG. The diesel version is powered by a 1248 cc 16V DOHC engine, which produces a peak power output of 88 bhp and 200 Nm torque. Its petrol version delivers 102.7 bhp power and 145 Nm of peak torque, while the CNG versions gives 85 bhp power and 122 Nm torque. SX4 comes with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. It must be noted that there are rumours that the company will be showcasing a refreshed product at the Auto Expo 2014 that will eventually replace SX4 in the Indian market.
Honda India managed to persist with its petrol vehicles for a long time, but with the increasing demand of diesel models, it launched the first diesel car Amaze in 2013. Ever since then, the sedan has been able to put up a good show in the Indian market. In fact, it was one of the best selling cars of Honda in the previous year. Amaze 1.5 VX MT (i-DTEC) Diesel is the top most version that cost around Rs. 8 lakh. One of the main highlights of Amaze is its i-DTEC diesel engine that is able to produce 98 bhp power and an impressive mileage of up to 25.8 kmpl. This sedan has a wheelbase of 2405 mm, ground clearance of 165 mm and boot space of 400 litres. A high fuel tank capacity of 35 litres when combined with a high fuel efficiency, helps to negate the need of frequent refuelling.
The all new Honda City (4th generation) has been recently launched. The price of this mid-size sedan ranges between Rs. 7.42 lakh and Rs. 11.10 lakh. According to a press release (dated 7th January 2014) covering the launch event of all new City, Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, Managing Officer, Honda Motor Company and Representative of Development, Purchasing and Production in Asia & Oceania Region reportedly said, “City has been a high performing product for Honda with over 2.2 million customers across 55 countries. The 4th Generation Honda City is poised for a great response from Indian customers amongst which the car enjoys a very high aspirational value. With the 4th Generation City now available in Diesel in India, Honda Cars is shifting gears to significantly expand its operating universe in the Indian market. The new launch will be a very important facet in this process as the car has witnessed an exceptional success ever since it was launched here.”
The diesel version of all new City comes equipped with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine based on Honda's Earth Dream Technology. This engine delivers a peak power of 98 bhp and peak torque of 200 Nm. As per company claims, one can expect a mileage of up to 26 kmpl from this model.
Hyundai Verna is one of the most selling sedans in the country. The price of this vehicle ranges between Rs. 7.4 lakh and Rs. 11.69 lakh. Some of the main highlights of Verna are sleek and sporty profile, sliding front armrest, tilt adjustable seat, 6 airbags, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and rear parking assist system.
Next model in this list is Ford Classic, which has been offered in two engine options, namely 1.4 Duratorq Diesel CLXi and 1.4 Duratorq Diesel Titanium. Introduced between a price tag of Rs. 7.35 lakh to Rs. 7.96 lakh, this sedan comes with a number of highly sought after features and so, has been well received by Indian buyers. Other vehicles, namely Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Chevrolet Sail and Fiat Linea too make for a good purchase in the price range between Rs. 7 lakh and Rs. 11 lakh.
