Daimler has said that the company will recall about three million diesel cars across Europe to cut down the harmful emissions. Disapproving any allegations about cheating on norms, the company claims that they provide customers with the option to have new software for cars running with OM 607 turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engines, which are used in Mercedes A-Class and B-Class models, to lower their output of nitrogen oxide.

The company said that updates to the new vehicles would involve no cost for customers. The implementation of the measures will be starting in the next weeks. Due to the large number of vehicles involved, the updates will last over a longer period of time.

The brand's diesel technology was called into question last week when German Transport Ministry officials met with Daimler representatives, including head of technology development Ola Kaellenius, to discuss accusations that it has used software to improve the results of its diesel models in emissions tests.

Daimler also said that the company would be producing a new diesel engine – OM 654 four cylinder diesel engine which was first launched in the new E-class in 2016. The new diesel engine will be available across its model portfolio and will be cleaner than the current one on sale and efficient.
