A test mule of the next-gen Mercedes A-Class  has already been spotted lapping Nürburgring However this time the German manufacturer is testing the prototype on public roads.

The test mule has been covered with cladding all over except for the roof. Due to heavy camouflaging, the changes to the body panels are still concealed. However, the test mule seems to be equipped with designer alloy wheels and has ditched the five spoke chrome garnished wheels. Sources suggest that the third generation A-Class will be markedly wider than the outgoing W176 model which was put into production in 2012. The prototype doesn't appear to be much longer, but it expected to have a roomier cabin than the current car - courtesy of the engineering work that's going into the new MFA platform.

There’s been no word yet on the engines that will be offered, but according to speculations, we shall see a down-sized engine compared to what the current ones offer in the standard A-class. However, the new A-class will also receive a lower AMG variant which will sit above the standard car – speculated to be dubbed as the A32 or A36.

It is expected that the manufacturer will showcase the 2019 A-Class in the 2018 Geneva Motor Show or Paris Motor Show. The A-Class is not a particularly strong model for the German automaker in India. But we will get the next gen car, just not in the same time frame that was kept for some of the other models.

When launched here in the domestic market, the third-generation A-class will rival against the BMW 1, Audi A3 series and the Mini cooper five door variant.
