Volkswagen India might not have shown that much of a sales growth as expected; however, the company is still optimistic about its future plans. Instead of charting out more volume based pathways for increasing the sales of its products, the company still focuses on initiating new performance oriented models in the country. The German auto maker has plans of introducing sportier variants in the near future, which will mainly be of the hatchback type. There are also rumours that the company will launch the Golf GT in India, which would take against the Mercedes A-Class. On the other hand, it is almost certain that the company will expand the Polo line-up to introduce more performance friendly and sporty variants of this hatch.
Volkswagen Polo GT models have been performing exceptionally well across several countries, which has in turn surprised the manufacturer. In fact, it has gone beyond the expectations of the company, which is undoubtedly taking this response as a foothold to move higher with more performance oriented variants in the future. The Polo GT comes in two versions, GT as well as GTI, which can produce 150 hp and 189 hp of power, respectively. The GTI model is capable of doing a 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in a mere 6.7 seconds. Ample safety features and adaptive dampers have made this car a runaway hit on international highways.
The concept of Volkswagen launching these models in the country is also convenient as the engines, which power these models are already available in the country, courtesy other premium models. The Polo GT is powered by the 1.4-litre TSI, which can be found in the Jetta as well as Skoda Octavia. On the other hand, the 1.8-litre TSI, which powers the Polo GTI, is the mill that powers Octavia. Definitely, the Polo GTI will be a pricey affair at around 17 lakhs INR, but will be the best hatch around.
