Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is all set to launch its much awaited new Swift DZire compact sedan on 1st February 2012. The Swift DZire has been one of the most successful products of the MSIL line-up and that is why the company has decided to roll out its first compact sedan, which is expected to carry the similar price tag. The current Swift DZire model is available in the Indian automobile market between the price range of Rs. 4.94 lacs and Rs. 7.29 lacs.
Managing Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, MSIL, Mayank Pareek stated, “We have invested a lot on the new DZire. It is on a brand new platform. There are at least 150 new features compared to the existing DZire and it is unlikely that the new one will be priced lesser." According to company officials, the compact sedan model has drawn inspiration from new Maruti Suzuki Swift.
In general, the compact sedan models are trimmed down to less than 4 metres in length, which consequently qualifies them to reap the benefit of 10% excise duty. As oppose to this, cars that more than 4000 mm long are levied with 22% excise duty.
As far as the dimensions are concerned, the new DZire would be 3995 mm in length (less 165 mm), 1695 mm in width (up 5 mm) and 1530 mm in height (up 25 mm). New DZire compact sedan is based on the platform of the new Swift and shares few features like the wheelbase (2430 mm) and weight (1000 kg) with latter model.
Coming to engine, the new compact sedan would be launched in the Indian automobile market with K12M VVT petrol engine that can produce maximum power of 85 hp at 6000 rpm and peak torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The car smoothly races from 0 to 100 kmph within a short span of 12.6 seconds. Along with the power-packed engine, this compact sedan also delivers efficient fuel economy of 19.1 kmpl.
The new Swift DZire will also come equipped with D13A DDiS diesel engine that can deliver maximum power of 73 hp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. The diesel variant of new DZire offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 23.4 kmpl. With this powerful engine, the car easily reaches 100 kmph in mere 14.8 seconds. The company would also introduce a 4-speed automatic transmission for petrol variant and manual transmission for the diesel Multijet variant.
The new DZire compact sedan has been incorporated with alloy wheels, new egg crate-style grille and organic-shaped tail lamp clusters. Air conditioning with climate control, integrated audio system with six speakers, light beige and black colour scheme for interior cabin and dashboard with sombre black finish are other features of the new Swift DZire. MSIL has even introduced variable valve timing and detent pin tech in the compact sedan. Once launched, the new Maruti Swift DZire will give competition to Mahindra Verito CS and Tata Manza CS that will be introduced in coming months.
