The month of December gets very exciting towards the end when Google comes up with Zeitgeist, a report on the fast changing and the most searched things or people online. This year, the Zeitgeist 2014 revealed that Honda emerged as the most searched automobile brand with Honda Mobilio as the most searched car in 2014. Chevrolet Spark occupied the second spot for the second most searched car online on Google.
According to Google, Honda displaced Maruti, who held the first position last year. This does not come as a surprise to many with the Japanese carmaker launching very successful models in the year of 2014. The new Honda City diesel launched in January and Honda’s entry into the MPV segment in India with Mobilio, has clocked very high sales figures helping Honda securing the first place. Maruti Ertiga despite being the closest competition to the Mobilio could not secure any place this year. The reason for Honda Mobilio being searched online the most can be attributed to its form factor which bridges the gap between Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova when it comes to price and premium positioning. This might have sparked the audience interest in the multi-purpose vehicle from Honda.
The most anomalous data was that of Chevrolet Spark bagging the second position for the most googled car. The reason being that the plunging sales figures of the small car from General Motors does not seem to agree with less than two hundred units in any given month. This cannot be explained by the Zeitgeist 2014 as they only provide the data with no explanation. Google Zeitgeist is a good way to get analytical information on the searches made by people online.
