Safe driving is a term that everyone acknowledges to be an inherent feature of their own driving and most actually are proud of it. The fact stands valid for routine driving but if the traffic on the road is a little free than usual, then most people don't think twice before pressing on the throttle and indulging in a thrill seeking game play. It is hard to accept but people do forget that a just little speck of ignorance and carelessness could result in a life threatening mishap of oneself, besides claiming lives or inducing injuries to other innocent souls.

Thus, it is one's own responsibility to pay full attention while driving and refrain from getting distracted by some random cause, so as to secure safety of the passengers, other people and oneself. Following the exponential increase in everyday accident related fatalities and injuries; the government has mandated several rules and regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act, in order to ensure that the drivers conform to safe driving and also to punish those who fail to comply with the rules.

Ensuring safe driving doesn't cost anything but requires a simple attentive and pragmatic approach. Mostly, one must avoid getting distracted by using cell phones, talking unnecessarily and carefree insolence while driving. Also, the Driving Under Influence (DUI) is a major cause of worry, because considering the amount of traffic that runs on Indian roads it leaves absolutely no chance for a person to indulge in DUI. One must also stick to his own lane and rampant switching to different lanes, puts not just the driver into risk but also poses grave danger for the other cars and drivers as well. The government has meticulously determined the maximum speed limits on Indian roads and appeals the drivers to conform to the limits and expects them to not jump the red lights. Further, any person found defying the rules by the traffic police, could attract a serious penal offence or even a jail sentence, in case of incorrigible acts.

It is the responsibility of every obedient citizen to understand the repercussions of dangerous driving and one must pledge to always commit to put safety of others before self. Sane driving is not just a need, it’s more like an obligation and must be realised by every individual.
