The 2016 India-bound Audi Q7 seems to have lost a fair deal of curves and quite some weight, as well. As far as the images are concerned, the car looks more stylish and sharper with lesser curves, when compared with the outgoing model. Apart from this fact, the car also goes under some heavy weight losing effect with a decrease of 325 kilograms. The car releases to the world at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show scheduled for next month.

Audi has globally revealed the 2016 luxury SUV Q7, just a month ahead of its global launch at the North American Auto Show at Detroit. The first thing that fans are sure to notice is that the new updated model maintains the silhouette of the outgoing model. However, the curves have been neatly ironed out to make way for aggressive lines. The most notable aspect of the 2016 variant is, undoubtedly the massive weight reduction. The luxury SUV has gone for a decrease of 325 kilograms, making it highly more efficient and agile in a single go.

When you get the first glimpse of the 2016 Audi Q7, you are sure to notice the reduction in height as well as the narrowing of its dimensions, when compared with the outgoing model. The dimensions of the new model are 5050 mm length, 1970 and 1740 mm in width and height, respectively. The wheelbase is slightly increased at 2990 mm. According to the reports from Audi, there has been a boost in the cabin space irrespective of the fact that the dimensions have reduced. There is 21 mm additional legroom in between the rows of seats. Apart from that, there has been a significant increase in the headroom in both the rows of seats.

The front fascia of the car is a single frame 3D grille, the lines are significantly sharper and gets more aggressive when moved towards the rear part of the car. The new model gets a pair of sharper tail lights and twin exhausts, apart from making the rear end sleek. Due to the reduction in height, the SUV gets a royal and larger appearance.

The weight loss distribution has been done judiciously to increase the efficiency of the car. According to the manufacturer, the chassis alone has seen a loss of 100 kilograms. The main contributor for the loss of weight is the usage of aluminium in the bumpers, body panels and even on some parts of the chassis. The dashboard is clutter-free and gets a superior pop-up display. The instrument cluster is equally suave with a 12.3-inch completely digital TFT instrument cluster, a multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel. Apart from these, a knob shifter is present in place of the gear stick shifter.

When it comes to the powertrain, the 2016 Audi Q7 is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine, which is capable of producing 272 PS and a net torque of 600 Nm. The car does a zero to 100 kilometres per hour at a mere 6.3 seconds. Apart from the regular engine, there is a 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing 333 PS and 440 Nm of torque. This engine is capable of doing 100 kilometres an hour from ignition in a mere 6.1 seconds. Both the petrol and diesel variants are mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. However, the United States and few Asian markets will get an all-new 2.0-litre TFSI 4-cylinder petrol motor, which will generate 252 PS and a torque output of 370 Nm. Additionally, a Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid motor will join the line of products. This will be powered by a V6 turbo diesel model capable of a 373 PS and 700 Nm.

The second generation Audi Q7 is approximately 26 per cent better than the outgoing one in respect of fuel efficiency. Apart from this aspect, the CO2 emissions are also reduced by a fair margin. It is expected that the manufacturer will soon bring this luxury SUV to India, where the first generation has been a runaway hit.
