Hyundai Grand i10 was introduced in the Indian automotive market on 3rd of September with an intention to gain on its market share in the popular hatchback segment. Currently, the vehicle is competing with cars like Nissan Micra, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and Maruti Suzuki Ritz. However, those customers who wish to purchase either new Micra or Grand i10 find it hard to make an apt decision. Notably, both vehicles have certain plus and negative points over each other and so, it is left to customers to identify what they look for from their intended model. It must be noted that the price of Nissan Micra ranges between Rs. 4.8 lakh and Rs. 7.14 lakh, while the price of Hyundai Grand i10 ranges from Rs. 4.30 lakh to Rs. 6.42 lakh.

Hyundai i10 is a bridge between the currently available vehicles namely i10 and i20. Its front fascia has a distinctive appearance due to prominence of chrome surrounds. Styling of front has been done with well positioned fog lamps. A prominent hexagonal front grille further accentuates the look of front fascia. Interestingly, elongated and stylish headlamps give a stylish and sporty overall look to the vehicle. Exteriors of Nissan Micra cast a mature masculine look with a typically styled front radiator grille. Also, fog lamps seem to be positioned a little lower than Grand i10, but nonetheless, it serve the purpose. Comparing exteriors of both the vehicles, it is apt to say that while Grand i10 looks more sportive, Micra features a muscular look with strong stance.

When things boil down to interiors, Grand i10 comes with a completely revamped cabin except the familiar dashboard. The cabin of the vehicle is spacious and offers comfortable bucket type front seats. Quality of plastic has been improved too. Micra, on the contrary, seems to offer more space and comfort than its rival. However, the fit and finish of interiors of Grand i10 are tilted in its favour as against Nissan Micra.

Industry experts are of a view that engine and performance play a pivot role in the success of any vehicle and form the base of any comparison. The petrol and diesel variants of Grand i10 come with 1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT petrol engine and 1.1-litre 2nd Gen U2 diesel engine, respectively. The petrol engine offers a peak power output of about 81 bhp at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The 2nd generation 1.1-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine offers a peak power of 69 bhp and torque of 180 Nm. Both engines are mated with a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox.

Nissan Micra comes loaded with 1.2-litre 12V in-line petrol engine that can generate a top power of 67.1 bhp at 5000 rpm and peak torque of 104 Nm at 4000 rpm. On the other hand, 1.5-litre 8V in-line diesel engine can pump out a maximum power of 63.1 bhp at 4000 rpm and torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. Like Grand i10, Micra’s engine also comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai Grand i10 returns a decent fuel economy of around 18.9 kmpl in petrol and around 24 kmpl in diesel variants. On the other hand, the petrol version of Micra offers a mileage of about 18.44 kmpl. Micra diesel variants deliver a mileage of around 23 kmpl. Comparing the fuel efficiency of two models, it can be clearly seen that figures tend to match closely and are suggestive of no big difference in fuel economy.
