Tata Motors, the country's largest auto maker, seems all prepared for the launch of Nano CNG in the Indian auto market on 8th of October, 2013. Interestingly, the car was showcased at a customer focused initiative, named Horizonnext in June this year and was able to pull masses across its stand. Sources close to the development process have stated that the upcoming CNG variant will be marketed as Nano emax in the Indian auto market. Sources further said that the CNG tank in Nano has been particularly designed by Tata Motors at its in-house unit. It is being said that the CNG cylinders of Nano will have a capacity of 10 litres, which is quite decent for a fuel efficient car like Nano.

It must be noted that the CNG version of Nano will weight 100 kg more than the current generation model, taking its total weight up to 735 kg. Reportedly, the new variant will be available in two trim levels, namely CX and LX. Coming to the technical specifications of Nano emax, the car will come equipped with the same 624 cc petrol engine, which has the potential to churn out a maximum power of 37 bhp with a torque of up to 51 Nm. With this brilliant output, the car achieves a top speed of 105 kmph. In the new emax, it is being said that the pair of CNG cylinders will be placed below the seat of drive, which will help it to save the boot space.

Along with a new fuel option, the upcoming Nano CNG will feature few modifications, which will set it apart from the current generation model. Key highlights of the same are new green colour theme for instrumental console, exclusive emax decals, fire extinguisher and high mounted seats. Also, both the CX and LX variants will be offered with reworked interiors, which will help the auto maker in luring the price sensitive Indian buyers. Considering all these changes, the new Tata Nano emax is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs. 30,000 more than the regular model.

Industry experts are of a view that if rightly priced, the new Tata Nano emax will stiffly compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 CNG, which is currently ruling the segment. Also, the launch of an economical model in the festive season seems to be a clever move from Tata Motors as domestic buyers tend to purchase more on cars during this time period.
