Tesla Motors has been ruling the electric vehicle segment. Well known for its technological potential, Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors, revealed on social media that the company is planning on introducing complete self-driving hardware in models such as the Model 3, Model X and the Model S. The vehicles will get 12 ultra-sonar sensors, eight cameras and a radar.

The cameras will not be directly visible and the eight surround cameras will cover 360-degrees with 250 metres range. Reports indicate that the sensors are capable of detecting obstacles nearly twice the distance of the earlier version. Moreover, the new on-board computer is capable of processing 40 times faster than the older generation system. However, it will take a while before the technology is actually introduced.

As of now, the hardware lacks features like collision warning, automatic emergency braking, active cruise control and lane holding. The company has not given an exact time frame when the technology will be introduced, but it  is certain that complete self-driving mode will only be offered once the company is satisfied with real time test results, especially after being entangled in previous controversy surrounding incidents of fatal crashes in the past.
